Access Solar empowers LEADS

On 15 October Access Solar Ltd., as one of their CSR initiatives commissioned a solar system for LEADS a national non-governmental organisation and charity by Act of Parliament. LEADS is dedicated to developing communities and protecting children with service to the nation for over 30 years. Through this initiative by Access Solar Ltd., LEADS will have a saving of Rs. 900,000 a year on their overhead utility cost which will enable greater cost efficiency in the development and child protection work which they carry out. 

The solar power system donated by Access Solar Ltd. will be hugely beneficial as the LEADS building is the primary receiving point of children in need. Children subjected to abuse who are referred from the courts and the department of probation are brought to LEADS for assistance with counselling and therapy, family support and legal backing. The building auditorium is also used to facilitate training and awareness programs on various subjects such as child protection, child care, community transformation, community development and various advocacy initiatives. 

Thus the system will benefit not only the organisation, but also the visiting children, families, government authorities and other visitors both Sri Lankan and international. Through this CSR initiative Access Solar Ltd., as a corporate citizen, will help LEADS, be more efficient in its services to the children and the communities it serves in 13 districts across the island, in a more environmentally renewable and sustainable manner as a model to emulate. In carrying out its work LEADS as a national NGO has been conscious about the caring for the environment and has always sought to be environmentally responsible. 

The conversion to the use of renewable energy and the installation of the solar power is a continuation of its construction bid towards a more eco friendly building. LEADS is an agency that works towards touching lives, transforming communities and building the nation. The Access Solar Ltd. installation of a solar power system therefore will help LEADS tap into natural resources for power generation and help reach its goal of building the nation by contributing to the national grid towards national power efficiency.
