An act of kindness from a stranger can sometimes be the most inspirational story one hears, and proving that kindness still exists in today’s world is the encouraging story of N.M.N.M. Sajaad. On 2 February, Sajaad, a three-wheeler driver, arrived at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo and stated that he found a purse and hairclip in his three wheeler. He added that two ladies got into his three wheeler near Odel and he had dropped them at the hotel, so it must belong to them. That same evening, a female crew member of an international airline, who was residing at the hotel, reported to the hotel’s security that she had lost her purse. The hotel’s Security Officer along with the Lobby Manager informed the guest her purse had been found and handed over by the three-wheeler driver. The purse was searched and found to contain all valuable items including currency and country entry passes, membership cards, etc. in it. The guest was very happy and appreciated the honesty shown by Sajaad. In appreciation of his honourable endeavours, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo thanked Sajaad and gifted him a small token of gratitude. This is not the first time Sajaad has come to the aid of guests; on three previous occasions, he has found and handed over valuable items such as mobile phones, wallets, etc., which were left behind in his three-wheeler by foreign guests. A German guest has also published an article in a German newspaper regarding Sajaad’s act and at present, several guests of German nationality are in contact with him because of his honesty. Sajaad has been living as a three-wheeler driver for the past 15 years and regularly parks his vehicle near the Odel Showroom in Colombo 7. He has shown a high degree of honesty through his deeds and has proven to many that an act of kindness can go a long way toward making a difference.
