Arpico Arpitec serves rural schools with clean drinking water

Sri Lanka’s number one water pump, Arpico Arpitec water pump launched another CSR project to provide clean drinking water to the needy schools of the rural areas which has been a long due need, together with Neth FM one of Sri Lanka’s leading Sinhala radio stations, Arpico water tanks and Arpico PVC pipes and fittings under the theme to uplift child health standards and education in the country..



As the first step of the project, the CSR campaign started off at Kolonna Primary School in Kolonna Embilipitiya recently.

Partnering as the media sponsor, Neth FM endorsed the details and called applications on their ‘Neth Seraya’ program, while over 100 rural underprivileged schools who did not have access to clean drinking water submitted their applications.

The criteria of eligibility were evaluated in terms of the number of students, past academic excellence, minimum infrastructure and the district of the school. After many evaluations the organisers managed to select few schools of which include the Kolonna Junior School Embilipitiya with an excellent past academic record to initiate the project. The 2012 grade five scholarship scores included 15 students who got through and one student who scored 180 marks out of 104 students who sat for the examination.

Richard Pieris Local manufacturing and Distribution Sector Managing Director Sunil Liyanage who guided throughout this important project said: “With the submission of over 100 schools for, we saw that almost all of them didn’t have access to clean drinking water, therefore, we thought that it is a part of our responsibility to provide them with a complete system to supply clean drinking water through the CSR project.”

Director and Furniture Sector Group Operation Head Shantha Kularathne speaking at the occasion said: “The key objective of this project is to improve health standards of the children and thereby to develop the educational standards. We managed to select few very deserving schools to start the project out of more than 100 applications received through Neth FM endorsements, our partner in this worthy course. We believe that the students of these schools will be able to continue their education and be fruitful citizens to our nation.”

Senior Business Development Manager Sadath Mohomed, sharing his views on the project said: “As the leader in water pump market in Sri Lanka we are structured ourselves to provide the best and perfect solutions to needs of clean drinking water to the nation.

“We planned this CSR project with the vision of ‘The future of our nation depends on a healthier youth’. Continuing this project we hope to look into other needs of those schools and fulfil in future as well.”
