Athugalpura Asala Asiriya 2014

Athugalpura Asala Asiriya 2014, an Asala Festival, was held on 11, 12 and 13 July 2014 at the Maligapitiya Ground in Kurunegala. The festival was conceptualised by Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard Major General Udaya Perera and other senior officers of the regiment. The festival was embellished with beautiful lanterns and a ‘Bathi Gee’ concert. Lanterns were created by the officers and soldiers of the regiment. The pandol the med ‘Kali Yakshani’, which was created by officers and soldiers of the Security Force in Jaffna, dazzled the festival. A specialty was that the technical operation of the panadol was shown to everyone and the story of the pandol was available in both the Sinhala and English medium. It was highly appreciated by the people. An ‘Osu Pan Dansala’ was held on all three days and people who visited the Asala zone were served with the Osu Pan. The theme of the festival was ‘Athugalpurayai Daham Amawai’ and large numbers of people visited the site. On the first day, 11 July 2014, the festival was held in the midst of Pirith Chanting which was held with the participation of 150 Bhikkus, under the patronage of Chief Minister of North Western Province Dayasiri Jayasekara, Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard Major General Udaya Perera, other senior officers of the regiment and a distinguished gathering.
