Aviva NDB Insurance marked the World Environment Day this year by dedicating the first two weeks in June for ‘Go Green’ activities focusing on creating awareness about serious environmental issues.  The ‘Go Green Campaign’ launched by the company concentrated on educating and inspiring the employees to do their bit to help preserve planet earth. One of the activities that captured the attention of employees was a quiz on saving electricity that proved to be an educational eye-opener.

The campaign kicked off on a working day with over 120 staff members converging on Calido Beach in Kalutara for a cleanup operation in a bid to preserve its natural beauty. Calido is a narrow strip of land between the Kalu Ganga and the sea and the area is maintained by the Urban Council of Kalutara. It has been identified as an area that is faced with natural erosion and pollution mainly due to the influx of visitors endangering its sensitive ecosystem and biodiversity.

Aviva NDB Managing Director Shah Rouf said, “The enthusiasm with which our people readily volunteered to clean up the beach reflects positively on our corporate lifestyle of caring for the well-being of the nation in everything we do.”

The ‘Go Green Campaign’ is very much an integral part of Aviva’s global strategy of contributing meaningfully to preserving the environment. In Sri Lanka Aviva NDB practices energy saving measures such as using tinted windows, LCD monitors and energy saving bulbs and switching off central air conditions at 5p.m. as an on-going measure to reduce resource usage. Recycling waste paper and communicating with customers via SMS and digital communications are other practices adopted by the company to help preserve the environment.
