Students and staff at Dutugemunu Vidyalaya, Nochchiyagama in the Anuradhapura district can now enjoy clean and safe water treated by the water purifying facility donated by BASF. The facility, which has a capacity to dispense 1,200 litres of clean and safe drinking water per day, will help alleviate the potential threat of chronic kidney diseases to local residents as a result of the exposure to unhygienic drinking water. BASF will also partner with the Water Board to roll out awareness programs to local schools to educate students on the importance of clean and safe water.

BASF Lanka Ltd. Managing Director Panduka Weerasingha said, “As we celebrate our 150th anniversary, we want to focus on measures that benefit society. Our team has identified Nochchiyagama as an area of concern, particularly in terms of water accessibility. We therefore have donated the funds to establish this facility, to ensure a continuous supply of clean and safe water for children and their families in the district. We thank Chief Engineer H.A. Jayasiri and his team, the Water Board, Principal R.P. Karunarathne Bandara, Deputy Principal D.M.S. Dissanayake and all the staff members of A/Sri Dutugamunu Maha Vidyalaya who supported to make this project successful.”

BASF and the Water Board will launch awareness programs for the students on the benefits of clean water and the importance of saving water for future use.
