HSBC staff volunteers and school children participated in a cleanup project of the Kalpitiya beach recently to promote and develop community-based awareness and education related to conservation.

The cleanup was organised in partnership with World Vision Lanka as part of the main project initiated in October 2012, to address  the environmental degradation of the bar reefs in Kalpitiya and to provide alternative livelihood for its residents. Other areas of focus include livelihood programmes and forming larger stakeholder groups who will act as citizen scientists to support coral reef conservation.
