Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) recently presented Kadayamotte Sinhala Vidyalaya – Madurankuliya with a much-needed new IT lab as part of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, ‘Pariganaka Piyasa’. CDB Pariganaka Piyasa aims to contribute towards and enhance IT literacy among students island-wide. This donation marks the eighth such lab provided by CDB to schools, with the total value of the project worth over Rs. 1.2 million. DGM IT Imdaad Naguib was present when the IT lab was handed over to the school, along with senior members of CDB. The state of the art IT lab is equipped with HP computers, LCD monitors, printers, stationery, scanners, computer tables, chairs and other vital infrastructure. A Sri Lanka Telecom ADSL Internet facility was also included in the donation. “IT literacy has become a vital part of education,” said Kadayamotte Sinhala Vidyalaya Deputy Principal Lesley expressing his gratitude at the occasion. “Up until now, the children of our school have not had access to the internet. However thanks to this gift from CDB, we can now ensure that our children are exposed to this vital skill. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for CDB’s generosity which will not just benefit our schoolchildren but also the entire community of Madarankuliya.” Speaking on the occasion, Naguib said: “This is the eighth IT lab project we have held, as part of a strategic aim to enhance IT literacy across the country. In a modern context, IT skills are vital to gain a foothold in the workplace.” He added, “Our CSR strategy is to focus on a vital issue – that is, giving the youth the skills they need to strengthen their employability. Through Pariganaka Piyasa, we plan to enhance IT education among rural youth, as a way to broaden their minds and give them the tools they need to survive in the workplace. We are doing this as a responsible member of the local community.” CSR has been a vital part of the Institution’s success for many years. The CDB Pariganaka Piyasa Lab donations have been integrated into the core of its ongoing CSR projects. As part of its national drive to increase IT literacy, CDB plans to carry out more projects of this nature in other parts of the country.
