Ceylinco Life educates Jaffna schoolchildren on road safety

Life insurance leader Ceylinco Life has educated 250 schoolchildren of 27 schools in Jaffna on road safety, by conducting a major awareness program on the subject in collaboration with the Colombo Traffic Police and the Jaffna Police.

The company also presented 250 Traffic Jackets to the children, who act as traffic wardens at their respective schools, at the half-day program which focused on several aspects including public safety, road usage and traffic rules and regulations.

The program was attended by B Indran – Acting DIG – Jaffna Division, Rasika Rathnayake – Chief Inspector of Police – Traffic Police Headquarters, several other senior Police officers, heads of the seven branches that Ceylinco Life operates in Jaffna and teachers of the participant schools.

“This program complements Ceylinco Life’s long-term commitment to schoolchildren which includes the grant of scholarships and improving infrastructure at schools,” Ceylinco Life’s Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan said, “Jaffna has always been an important market for Ceylinco Life, and efforts such as this support the peninsula’s needs in its post-conflict resurgence.”

Among the schools which were represented at the workshop were St. John’s College – Jaffna, Christian College – Kopay, Ladies College – Manipay, Hindu College – Chavakachcheri, Central College – Atchuvely and A. M. C. School – Uduppiddy.

Other Corporate Social Responsibility programs conducted by Ceylinco Life for schoolchildren include the Pranama Scholarships program, which has provided more than Rs. 50 million in financial assistance to 1,300 students and the improvement of infrastructure at needy schools under which the company has built 37 classrooms to date.
