On 20 April, Ceylon Continental shared the spirit of Avurudu with 51 children aged 10 to 18 from the Vajira Orphanage.

A full day’s programme began with the children’s arrival at the hotel at 10:30 a.m. after which the traditional Avurudu table was laid out. Competitions took place thereafter and the children enjoyed competing with each other in lime and spoon, tug of war, pin the elephant and other customary games.

After a lunch buffet break at the Topaz, the competitions continued until tea time, where evening drinks and snacks were distributed.

The Avurudu Kumari and Avurudu Kumaraya were selected thereafter and prizes and gifts were distributed before the children returned to the orphanage.

“This is not the first time that Ceylon Continental has organised a programme for the children of the Vajira Orphanage. We see the orphanage as an institution where we can add some value in many forms including giving the children happy, memorable experiences. Seeing smiles on the faces of these underprivileged children is something that we at the hotel greatly enjoy and we have chosen to focus on our social responsibilities in this manner,” a Hotel Spokesperson stated.

The hotel had also invited several celebrities to participate in the day’s activities. In attendance during the day’s programme were Saranga Dissasekera, Sarala, Himali, Saurangi and Amila.

The Ceylon Continental Hotel is owned and managed by the Hayleys Group. To experience all that Ceylon Continental has to offer, please call 242 1221 or visit www.ceyloncontinental.com.
