Charity show for Kotte home of Crippled Children’s Association

The Kotte home of the Crippled Children’s Association of Sri Lanka for differently-abled children has a new building going up and they are several millions short of the funds needed to complete the building. This organisation has an excellent staff who are doing a superb if arduous job in lovingly giving these disadvantaged children a hand in getting a better life. So it is a worthy cause. To help, there will be a fund-raising show put on in the auditorium of the Samudra Hotel at 78 Galle Road (opposite Cinnamon Grand) on Wednesday 18 June. Doors open at 6 p.m. Since it is rush hour and there is no parking at the venue, it is best to aim to be there at 6 p.m. Doors will close sharp at 6:45 and there will be no late admissions. This gives you an inkling of the international standards to which this show will function. Apart from the children themselves, who will both dance and sing for your entertainment, the major performers have international experience. Kapila Palihawadana of nATNADA dance theatre will be dancing. Shanelle Fernando will be singing. Ranjan will also be singing and though not known to Colombo audiences he has trained in Britain as well as Sri Lanka and performed in New York, Chicago and London. The dances will be contemporary and the songs a selection of classical and Broadway. The show is a tribute to Ranjan’s mother Marjorie, who will be celebrating her 100th birthday on 18 June. The Kotte Children’s Home was chosen from among the many worthy causes because it was started by Marjorie’s uncle Arthur Nathanielsz and because of their special need to complete the new building.
