Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC donated Resuscitation Training Equipment to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital on 17 March at the auditorium of the Karapitiya Faculty of Medicine. The donation was made to fulfil a long awaited requirement of the paediatric ICU of the second largest teaching hospital in Sri Lanka; the Karapitiya teaching hospital. The handing over ceremony was graced by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC MD/CEO Kishu Gomes, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Director Dr. Shelton Perera, University of Ruhuna Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Sarath Lekamwasam, Head of the paediatric ICU Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena, Dr. Manjula Hewageegana, distinguished stakeholders of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC from the area, the staff of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and the staff of the Ruhuna faculty of medicine as well as the staff of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC. The hospital treats more than 12,000 child patients a year, of which approximately 300-500 patients (per annum) are admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit for treatment. The child patients warded here belongs to the low – mid income families, living mainly in the southern province of Sri Lanka. These treated child patients at the Paediatric unit of the Karapitiya teaching hospital belongs to families burdened with financial difficulties and who inevitably depends on the government health service for the needed treatments. The donated training medical equipment and the mannequins will provide the trainee medical doctors to develop the necessary medical skills, experience and training on mock scenarios instead on the warded live child patients at the hospital, which was the practice prior to the donation made by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC. As an organisation, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC strives to be at the forefront of supporting the social development of Sri Lanka and we believe health of the nation is of utmost importance for a wealthy nation and that is why the company has sponsored many initiatives to support the medical needs of the country such as the renovation of the Matara hospital and the donation of air mattresses to the Colombo general hospital,” commented Kishu Gomes. Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC’s sponsorship will not only benefit the medical students, trainee doctors and medical staff to develop their skills, it would also benefit many child patients today and tomorrow with better medical treatment for a healthier nation. Thus this CSR initiative is to support a healthy future generation and is a noble cause which Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC is exultant to have sponsored.
