The team at Cinnamon Lodge Habarana in coordination with the projects and engineering team of Keells Hotel Management Services Limited organised a medical camp held at the Habarana Maha Vidyalaya which was a resounding success. The medical camp was conducted with the participation of a team of prominent consultant physicians of different disciplines. A team of nurses and pharmacists were also deployed by the Habarana hospital and from the medical regiment of the regional army quarters to assist the team of physicians. Pharmaceutical companies also joined in this effort by donating and sponsoring some of the medication that was offered at the camp.

Blessings were sought from the chief priest of the Habarana temple and proceedings commenced after his sermon and religious formalities had taken place. The local police assisted in managing the crowds and the event took place with the participation of local Government officials as well. A total number of 1,212 patients benefited from this programme and expressed their appreciation for organising such health and community welfare initiatives especially since this kind of medical attention is not freely available to communities of this area, and instances were noted where people had travelled as much as 10kms to get to the camp from remote areas having identified the value of attending this event.

Business is not always about personal gain and profits, it needs to essentially have an advantage and ensure sustainability of the society as well. Initiatives such as this, enable a resort like Cinnamon Lodge Habarana to uphold its promise of indulgence to its external stakeholders and community and not just guests. The initiative was conducted in accordance with ‘I will Care’, a pledge upheld by employees of John Keells Hotels, where employees endeavour to reflect a caring attitude to both their internal and external customer.
