Citi celebrated its 10th annual Global Community Day on 13 June, with more than 77,000 Citi volunteers in 487 cities spanning 93 countries and territories engaged in service activities to benefit their local communities.

Global Community Day offers a wide range of service opportunities that harness the enthusiasm and passion of our diverse employees, family and friends, and meet the pressing needs of our communities. Over the past ten years, volunteers have participated in more than 11,000 Global Community Day activities and contributed more than two million hours of service.

Citi Sri Lanka participated in the Global Community Day activities by organising an educational pack distribution project with the assistance of Rotary Club of Capital City. The project included the packaging of 3676 educational packs which was distributed amongst 14 under privileged schools in the remote areas of Hungama and Tissamaharamaya.

Participating in the distribution of education packs Ravin Basnayake, Citi Country Officer said, “We are firmly committed to the view that education is the foundation of success for the nation. In light of that, and in the spirit of celebrating the 10th anniversary of GCD, we have decided to place our focus on education for the consecutive second year. We hope that the educational material donated to the children will serve them well and bring a smile to their face as they attend school.”

For this purpose over 140 Citi Volunteers pledged their otherwise comfortable Saturday towards creating a difference to the community we live in. Looking ahead, Citi will continue to fulfill its duty of corporate citizenship, and devote corporate resources to environmental protection, financial education and charity initiatives, so as to honor its commitment to fostering mutual prosperity with Sri Lanka.
