Colombo Cinnamon Roundtable Four donates to CBB ELT project

Colombo Cinnamon Roundtable Four President Ranil Samarawickrema and National Secretary of Round Table Sri Lanka, donated Rs. 250,000 to the Council for Business With Britain’s (CBB) English Language Training (ELT) project. The cheque was handed over to Council for Business with Britain Chairman Nick Nicolaou at a breakfast meeting organised by the Council recently. Round Table Sri Lanka President, Chandana Aluthgama was also present at the event.

Since 2005 the CBB has been working through the British Council to deliver its successful and well regarded English Language Teaching project. This is being conducted with the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and has been built up over a number of years. The program is now working extremely well and is in to its sixth year. The overall goal of the program is to upgrade the English skills of pupils, mainly in rural schools, and this is achieved through improving the quality of the teaching of English in their schools.

Round Table is a group of likeminded friends trying to help the local community, especially children. Round Table was born with the motto ‘Adopt, Adapt, Improve’ and from small beginnings of one club in Norwich, UK it now boasts over 32,000 members in 52 countries. Round Table – Sri Lanka consists of four tables and Colombo Cinnamon Round table four is headed by Samarawickrema.

With this generous donation, Colombo Cinnamon Round table four join hands with CBB to sponsor 10 teachers in CBB’s ELT project fifth phase in 2012-2013, fulfilling its objective of helping children in Sri Lanka.
