Due to an unprecedented increase in dengue cases, Colombo Courtyard, a boutique hotel, responded to an SOS call by the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda, for bed sheets and pillowcases. In need to match the patient to linen turnover, Colombo Courtyard donated bed sheets and pillow cases to Ward 2 at the IDH.
The IDH is Sri Lanka’s only hospital that specialises in treating people with infectious diseases. As the disease has its peak seasons, so does the hospital, sometimes filled to the point where even finding beds is an issue. When infectious diseases are not running rampant, this government hospital opens itself up to treating patients with other ailments. With dengue being the rage these days, IDH is finding it quite difficult to keep up with the demand for beds and extra linen needed to meet the turnover. IDH with capacity of some 50 beds has now more than 100 dengue children which could not be admitted due to lack of linen.
After conversation with Dr. Nishadhi Ranasinghe, Colombo Courtyard was able to donate linen to Ward 2 – the paediatric ward at IDH. These will be used specifically for the said ward, while being distributed to other wards when needed. This will increase the capacity of the hospital to admit more kids suffering from dengue.
“We are extremely happy that we were able to get in touch with Dr. Ranasinghe,” said Colombo Courtyard General Manager Roshan George. “With all the health and environmental issues currently at large, we hope that this contribution could ease even the smallest burden off the shoulders of a group of people who are trying to make a positive change in this world. We, as one of the leading hotels in Colombo, do not shy away from such calls by the community.”
Colombo Courtyard, South Asia’s first CarbonNeutral City Hotel, stands out not only for environmental drive amongst the Colombo hotels, but also helps the community fight this killer disease through such contributions from time to time. Colombo Courtyard, an oasis lined with bamboo trees, along with its rooftop, Cloud Cafe, and poolside lunch options being the talking point of the town, cater to guests who are more demanding of an experience. Their unparalleled service is even commended by other hoteliers in town.
