Commercial Bank celebrates World Children’s Day with ‘Arunalu’

Commercial Bank’s signature children’s savings account ‘Arunalu’ in partnership with ITN, sponsored a children’s outing at the Air Force Museum Ratmalana, to recognise and reward children with promising talent, in commemoration of World Children’s Day which fell on  Monday, 1 October.

The grand event included many activities ranging from singing, dancing and creative drawing competitions, to crossword puzzles, archery contests and karate for different age groups. Over 10,000 children participated, and the winners at these activities received attractive prizes.

“Children have big dreams, tremendous potential and inexhaustible energy. They deserve the best possible chance in life. It was a joy to support this event,” said Hasrath Munasinghe – Deputy General Manager Marketing of Commercial Bank.

A series of competitions was conducted especially for children of military forces personnel, and the first five winners of a singing competition held for the children of war heroes were presented ‘Arunalu’ Children’s Savings Accounts by the Bank.

The bank operated its own ‘Arunalu’ stall with exclusive games and complimentary gifts and prizes for winners. Thousands of children gathered at the stall and at various other locations to take part in these games and many children walked away with attractive gifts from the bank.

Offering an interest rate of 9% per annum, ‘Arunalu’ remains the best Children’s Savings Account in Sri Lanka. In addition, it awards attractive cash prizes to account holders who are the top scorers at the Year Five scholarship examination in every school.

An ‘Arunalu’ account holder with a minimum balance of Rs. 5,000 on the date of the examination can win prizes of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 if he or she is placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd respectively in any school in the country. Furthermore, the account balance of District winners holding ‘Arunalu’ accounts will be doubled up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000.

In 2011, 365 students were rewarded with Rs 3.2 million under the Arunalu Scholarship scheme. ‘Arunalu’ accounts can be opened at any of Commercial Bank’s service points island-wide.
