Commercial Bank donates essential equipment to District General Hospital Matara

The District General Hospital Matara is the latest recipient of essential medical equipment from the Commercial Bank of Ceylon under the Bank’s multifaceted corporate social responsibility program.

The Bank has presented the hospital with a Patient Monitor and pledged to provide five Pulse Oxymetres, another Patient Monitor and Syringe Pumps to address the urgent needs of the institution.

The donation coincides with the 40 anniversary of the Commercial Bank’s Matara branch, which commenced operations on 24 January 1973, as the seventh branch in a network that now comprises of 227 service points in Sri Lanka.

The funds for the donation are provided by the Commercial Bank’s CSR Trust.

In December 2012, Commercial Bank donated essential equipment and supplies to four hospitals, Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Colombo, Elpitiya Base Hospital, District Hospital Gampaha and Base Hospital Dambadeniya.  

In earlier projects, the Bank has donated critical care equipment to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Jaffna Teaching Hospital and made substantial monetary contributions to repair wards at several other hospitals.

Commercial Bank’s flagship CSR initiative is in the sphere of IT Education, under which the Bank has donated fully-equipped and furnished computer laboratories to more than 60 schools and institutions to date, benefiting more than 30,000 students.

Additionally, the Bank presents scholarships and laptops to 25 undergraduates each year. In September 2012, the Bank further expanded its commitment to the education sector with the launch of a national-scale community initiative to take English language education to children in rural Sri Lanka.

Commercial Bank is the largest private bank in Sri Lanka, and operates a network of 227 computer-linked service points and the country’s single largest ATM network of 566 terminals.

The Bank has been adjudged ‘Best bank in Sri Lanka’ for 14 consecutive years by ‘Global Finance’ Magazine and has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank from ‘The Banker,’ ‘FinanceAsia,’ ‘Euromoney’ and ‘Trade Finance’ magazines.
