Commercial Bank helps Marawila students prepare for Year 5 scholarship exam

The Marawila branch of Commercial Bank recently hosted a one-day seminar for students preparing for the Year Five scholarship examination, under the banner of the bank’s ‘Arunalu’ Children’s Savings Account. Nearly 500 students from eight schools participated in the seminar, which was conducted by an award-winning teacher in the area using PowerPoint and video presentations. This was the second such seminar organised by Commercial Bank in Marawila. The bank’s Arunalu Children’s Savings Account rewards high achievers at the Year 5 scholarship examination at the national, district and school level with scholarships and cash prizes. Over the past eight years, Commercial Bank has paid out Rs. 28 million in prizes to over 2,500 Arunalu Minors’ Savings Account holders who met the eligibility requirements. Commencing this year, the bank will present scholarships of up to Rs. 382,500 to the three students who secure the highest marks countrywide at this examination and present a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 to students placed first in their respective districts, if they are ‘Arunalu’ account holders. Additionally, ‘Arunalu’ account holders who are placed first, second and third in their respective schools will receive cash prizes of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 each, in a continuation of the previous rewards scheme operated by Sri Lanka’s largest private bank. The largest private bank in Sri Lanka and the only Sri Lankan bank to be listed three years consecutively in the world’s top 1,000 banks, Commercial Bank operates a network of 232 branches and service points and a network of 571 ATMs in Sri Lanka. The bank has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank over several years.
