Commercial Bank takes IT to Kataragama Children

Children at the Gothamigama Junior College in Kataragama now have the chance to enhance their IT skills thanks to a community development project carried out by the Commercial Bank of Ceylon alongside the opening of its milestone 200th Service Point in Kataragama.

Senior officials of the Bank including its Chairman and Managing Director visited the school after the opening ceremony of the Service Point to open a computer lab donated by the bank to the school, which is located 10 km from the Kataragama Town.

Commercial Bank donated computers, related accessories, a printer, computer tables and chairs to the school and has undertaken to provide maintenance support from the bank’s IT team.

The school accommodates 350 students and offers classes up to the G.C.E. Ordinary Level.

Commercial Bank has chosen IT education as a key element of its CSR commitments, and considers it a duty and a privilege to support school children, a spokesperson for the bank said.

The 200th Service Point of the Commercial Bank which was opened on Wednesday, July 27th 2011 is located at No. 12, New Town, Kataragama.

The Commercial Bank has to date provided IT labs to needy schools in Tangalle, Badulla, Batticaloa and Nuwara Eliya, and plans to donate similar facilities to schools in other parts of the country this year.

Commercial Bank is the largest private bank in Sri Lanka, and the most internationally lauded financial institution in the country. The bank has been adjudged ‘Best Bank in Sri Lanka’ for 13 consecutive years by ‘Global Finance’ Magazine and has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank from ‘The Banker,’ ‘FinanceAsia,’ ‘Euromoney’ and ‘Trade Finance’ magazines.
