The Cultural Triangle Hoteliers Association initiated a CSR project recently where the beneficiaries were school children of low income families attending schools in Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Giritale, Habarana and Trincomalee. The students of these schools located in remote locations where the main economic activity is agriculture face numerous hardships and challenges economic and otherwise in continuing their education and some dropout due to the lack of basic stationery and books required to stay on in school due to the monetary status of their parents.  On identifying this need the association launched a project to assist 210 students who were selected with the assistance of the Divisional Secretaries, School Principals and other officials. Previously schools in the region were assisted by the association and member hotels by providing computers, buildings and many other projects to fulfil urgent needs. Commenting on this initiative CTHA President LaksithaWegodapola stressed the importance of assisting children in need as they were our future. Education is and will be the way where these children could see a brighter future and an important aspect for the development of our nation. The association will continue with projects to benefit the livelihoods of communities in the regions where the member hotels of the association are located, he said. The Cultural Triangle Hoteliers association which was founded in 1993 has been active for a span of two decades where it started off with 12 members and today has a membership of 22. Training and development of employees of the member hotels, assisting local communities and improvement aspects in the region from a tourism perspective are the ideals on which this association was founded on.
