The ‘Coffee Flower Fountain’ is part of the world heritage city of Kandy. This was built by Coffee Planters of Ceylon in the British colonial era in commemoration of the visit of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to Kandy in December 1875. This unique fountain made out of pewter has been initially constructed in Britain by George Smith & Co and Sun Foundry of Glasgow and shipped to Sri Lanka for installation. It is said that the British construction firm send their men to Sri Lanka to install the fountain in Kandy city. The DFCC Kandy branch stepped in on several occasions in the past to renovate the fountain and bring it to its former glory. During the Esala Perehera the elephants find their way to the fountain in search of water, damaging the little cherubs and swans that adorn the fountain. As part of the modernisation and renovation of the Kandy Heritage City, the Mayor to the Kandy Mahendra Ratwatta made a request to DFCC Bank to undertake the repairs and maintenance activities of the fountain once again. Recently the renovated fountain was re-commissioned by the Kandy Governor in the presence of the DFCC Kandy branch staff and officials from the Kandy Municipality. It is now once again seen close to its original condition located near the Queens Hotel side entrance to the Maligawa.
