Tissapura Vidyalaya, Uhana, is situated 350 km away from Colombo in the Ampara District. This school has been in existence for over 50 years but without a proper facility to obtain safe drinking water.

Owing to this situation both the teachers and the children were facing numerous hardships and finally the Principal of the school made a request to Munchee for assistance to bring an end to this hardship through its field sales personnel in the area.

Munchee sales personnel in the area promptly visited the school and recommended assisting the school under the ‘Munchee Samaga Gamata Sarana’ programme.

A couple of weeks later the CBL Munchee company staff members were going on their annual trip and one night out was in Ampara. This gave a real opportunity to lay the foundation for the project with the participation of the staff.

As a result, the longest-serving employee of the company Piyadasa Bogahawatage and W.A. Sirisena, President of the Employee’s Welfare Society, together with members of the management team took part in the laying of foundation.

During this brief event Munchee staff had the opportunity of seeing and listening to the hardships of children in the Tissapura Vidayalaya and some of them were in tears upon learning of the tribulations the children go through.

Within a period of less than one month, the project was completed with the assistance of villagers and Munchee sales team in the area. The project was recently vested in students under the patronage of Chatura Wijesooriya, General Manager – Human Resources of CBL, with a gathering of clergy, community leaders and members of the senior management of CBL Munchee, Government officials, parents, teachers and students.

On this occasion as a symbol of appreciation, students of the school presented a collection of handwritten notes expressing their joy and happiness on having drinking water to the members of the CBL Munchee management team present. CBL’s Public Relations Manager said the gesture of the students would be highly valued.
