“Our only goal is to bring laughter and happiness to children in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Very simple.”

Whoever travelled in Untitled-3Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts during the month of February might have come across an unusual sight: ‘The German Buzzzzzz’.

Organised by the German Embassy, the Goethe German Cultural Institute and GIZ German Agency for International Cooperation, the big vintage-bus toured in the region for two weeks and visited nine schools and 4,600 children.

Each day started off with a theatre performance by students of the Performing Arts Department University Jaffna followed by many outdoor games, sports activities and a lot of laughter and chatting between the equally excited children and team members.

“This is what our children need most,” says the principal of Kokuththoduwai School with a smile. “They do not even want to take a short break in case they might miss a game.”

All football activities were conducted by TAFA (Thaabit Ahamed Football Academy). Students of the Performing Arts Department University of Batticaloa joined the project on short notice.

Before leaving the schools the Buzzz Team handed over school supplies, books and sports equipment. It was a wonderful day for the children (and even the teachers) and a great experience for the Buzzzz-Team.

The team extends a big thank you to the project’s sponsors – DIMO who allowed them to use their big bus, and Allianz Insurance Lanka, Tudawe, Dial Textile, Würth Lanka, Ceyoka for sponsoring the project or donating school supplies, and German Football Egidius-Braun-Foundation for sponsoring TAFA.
