Hatton National Bank (HNB) the premier private sector commercial bank in the country donated books worth over Rs. 2.5 million to 200 under privileged schools on Monday.

This project was carried out under the Bank’s ‘Nena Pubuduwa’ school library program. Taking a long term view to aid high literacy, HNB launched the ‘Nena Pubuduwa’ school library scheme in 2005. The program aims to provide opportunities to under privileged children especially in rural schools to enhance knowledge and stimulate a love of reading and learning in children. It works to promote international and inter-cultural understanding and awareness, improve and expand knowledge of English and ICT thus creating opportunities for higher education and employment.

This program has been implemented in 200 schools all over the country and involves setting up of proper library facilities, donation of furniture, books and computers. The Bank continues to monitor the progress of each school library through its wide spread branch network. Every year the Bank donates new books to each library and carries out any repairs / renovations needed.
