HNB donates school books in Nochchiyagama in conjunction with Deyata Kirula 2012

Nestled among the dynasty and grandeur of the great city of Anuradhapura, Nochchiyagama saw new hope as HNB unleashed new horizons to the children of Nochchiyagama through its library book donation program ‘Nena Pubuduwa.’

HNB initiated the event in Nochchiyagama to coincide with the Deyata Kirula Exhibition 2012, which was held in Oyamaduwa Anuradhapura. Children of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Nochchiyagama, Dambulla, Galgamuwa, Kekirawa and adjoining towns saw library books being donated under the Nena Pubuduwa library scheme of HNB. Over 20 schools benefited through this program.

HNB Nochchiyagama Customer Centre Manager Senarath Nagahapitiya is also present HNB Chairperson Dr. Ranee Jayamaha, addressing the gathering elaborated on the importance of reading and the many benefits that reading bestows upon an individual’s life. She elaborated on the importance the bank places on the Nena Pubuduwa Project which was first initiated in 2004. Through the program more than 185 needy schools in Sri Lanka has benefited giving access to more than 45,000 school children to cultivate the reading habit, she stated.

The books were donated to the principals’ of the schools which were in turn donated to school children. The principals’ of the schools conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to HNB for donating books to their schools. The Schools that benefited on this day included Periyamiyankulama Maha Vidyalaya, K B Rathnayake Maha Vidyalaya, Sirisangabo Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura, Digampathaha Vidyalaya,Pannampitiya Maha Vidyalaya,Weera Mohan Jayamaha M.V in Dambulla, Siri Sumana Vidyalaya Galgamuwa, Dambewatana Vidyalaya Kekirawa, Bunnehepola Government School  and Hangawa Primary School in Kuliyapitiya, Padeniya Sri Sunanda M.V in Kurunegala, Bogahawewa Vidyalaya in Nochchiyagama, Sinhala Rotawewa Kanitu Vidyalaya and Ihala Yakkure Kanitu Vidyalaya in Polonnaruwa, Paiyindikulama Pandukabaya Vidyalaya and Makulawa Maha Vidyalaya in Thambuthegama, Medagama Vidyalaya in Kekirawa and Danupothagama Vidyalaya in Nochchiyagama.

In addition to the book donation, the winners of Pathum Vimana 2011, who won themselves each a Tafe tractor and a motor bike, were also rewarded. K.S.P Silva of Nochchiyagama customer centre won a Tafe tractor from HNB Pathum Vimana 2011 Harvest Draw, while A.A.N Abeysinghe of Nochchiyagama customer centre won a motor bike from the Year End Max Draw. The prizes were awarded by HNB MD/CEO Rajendra Theagarajah and HNB Deputy CEO Jonathan Alles.

The event was graced by the Director Development of the Zonal Education Office in Anuradhapura, Principals teachers and students of the recipient schools , Officials of HNB including the Chairperson - Dr Ranee Jayamaha, MD/CEO - Mr. Rajendra Theagarajah, Deputy CEO- Mr. Jonathan Alles, Deputy General Manager Network Management- Mrs Crysanthi Thambiah, Regional Head of North Central Region - Mr. Milroy Perera and the Branch Managers of HNB Branches in the North Central Region  and customers and well-wishers.
