HSBC a true advocate of corporate sustainability

HSBC Sri Lanka was adjudged one of the top 10 winners at the ‘Best Corporate Citizens Awards 2010’ presented by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce at a glitzy event held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel recently.

In addition, to winning in the top 10 category for best corporate citizen, HSBC was also awarded two Merit awards under the special CS category for “Empowering ‘at risk’ children through Entrepreneurship Education under Future First” and “The Gallery Refurbishment Project at the Colombo National Museum”.  



Nick Nicolaou, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Sri Lanka and Maldives commented: “HSBC is committed to the principles of corporate sustainability and these awards exemplify how HSBC as a sustainable organisation can work in partnership with various stakeholders for the betterment of society and its people. Therefore, winning these prestigious accolades is a manifestation of our efforts and contribution towards the communities which we operate in and we greatly appreciate the hard work put in by the Chamber in recognising these organisations.”

The 10 best corporate citizens awards were organised to promote Corporate Social Responsibility and Strategic Corporate Sustainability within the business sector in Sri Lanka.

Nilantha Bastian, Head of Marketing, Group Communications and Corporate Sustainability said: “Of the wining submissions, empowering ‘at risk’ children through Entrepreneurship Education is our flagship educational initiative and we have constantly tried to engage these students in various activities to enhance their knowledge and entrepreneurship abilities.”
