HSBC warms children’s hearts with special Avurudu festival

HSBC organised a special Avurudu Festival for 300 under privileged children representing eight orphanages in Colombo on 28 April at Excel World.   

The festival, which took the form of a traditional Avurudu ‘Uthsavawaya,’ consisted of several Avurudu games: ‘Kana Mutti,’ fancy dress parade, ‘Avurudu Kumari’ and marking the elephant eye, to name a few.

Children from Meth Mihira Special Education Centre, Moratuwa, Lawries Girls Home, Borella, Sri Jinanada Home, Wellawatte, Clarendon Children Home, Mt. Lavinia, Vajira Shri Rehabilitation Centre – Boys Home, Pita Kotte, Vajira Shri Rehabilitation Centre – Girls Home, Pita Kotte, Community Concern Society, Dehiwela and the Salvation Army Girls Home, Dehiwala were participants at the event.

HSBC as a global bank places much importance on celebrating diversity amongst its employees as well as the community in which it operates. As such the bank is committed to supporting all religions beliefs with events that celebrate Avurudu, Deepavali, Ramadan and Christmas with the less fortunate.

In addition to helping underprivileged children, the Avurudu festival gave HSBC employees the opportunity to join together as one team and work towards a common goal of enriching the lives of those less fortunate than themselves.
