As the Informatics Group celebrates 30 years of pioneering and empowering, the management and the staff of Informatics Group of companies shouldered a worthy Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project by donating equipment to facilitate a computer lab at Nagoda Central College, which is located in the Kalutara District.

Nagoda Central College has around 850 students and is located approximately three km off Kalutara town. In an age where Information Technology (IT) has become a necessity, the students of this school in Kalutara were deprived of basic IT education for several years. The school had previously planned on providing these students with IT education and had even made a computer lab. However, due to unfortunate circumstances these students never received the computers that they required.

Therefore, the only alternate option the students had was to learn IT from an old computer that had been placed in the school office which was used mainly for administrative purposes. Many of them had to wait for their turn until the office computer was free to be used. Following these revelations, the Informatics Group decided on taking an initiative to provide these students with the much-needed computers and equipment necessary to carry out IT education.

Soon after the donation of computers and other equipment, a seminar was held to highlight the importance of learning IT to encourage students to use computers in the future. The seminar was conducted by a lecturer representing the education arm of the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT). The school principal and the teachers rendered their heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of Informatics for this worthy donation.

The Principal of the school Janitha Rodrigo stated: These computers have been donated at a perfect time and we are excited about the new programs that we can begin for our students in this sphere. We thank the Informatics Group for their valuable and generous donations that will be a great boon to our students and will greatly assist them to gain much-needed IT knowledge that is required for today’s working environment.”

Informatics Group Deputy Chairman Hasith Wickramasinghe, Informatics Group Managing Director Hiran Wickramasinghe and several senior management representative of the Informatics Group participated in this event. Senior representatives of the Education Department also graced the occasion.  This is the first CSR project amongst a series of other planned projects that are scheduled to take place this year. As the group celebrates 30 years of pioneering and empowering, the Informatics Group will be playing a dedicated role in assisting and empowering all walks of society.
