Focusing on supporting the social and intellectual needs of students from visiting Kandy schools, the Kandy Schools’ Past Pupils’ Association (KSPPA) has embarked on a mission to build a hostel in Colombo. In order to fund raise, the KSPPA has planned a series of programs including proceeds from the annual Kandy Bash, the annual get together of the past pupils of the Kandy Schools in Colombo and other various activities. When completed, the hostel will provide accommodation facilities and amenities at a nominal cost, including food, water and proper sanitation for students who have to visit Colombo to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities. The primary beneficiaries of this hostel are the students and staff of all Kandy schools and other schools in the Central Province.  “We have realised that many students who get selected for competitive events face immense difficulties to find lodging, etc. in Colombo,” said KSPPA President Kamal Nanayakkara. “Therefore, it was a collective decision by the members of the KSPPA to set up a facility like this to ensure these students get the best care and protection when they come to Colombo to represent their schools or even the country in some cases,” he added. Kandy Bash 2014 will be held on Saturday 27 September from 2 p.m. onwards at Havelock Grounds. The membership also appeals for the active participation of Principals, teachers, parents, and students, both past and present of the Kandy schools to make this initiative a success. Meanwhile, the KSPPA has leased out a 100-bed (50 beds each for girls and boys separately), fully operational hostel with 24 hour security at Ratmalana to host visiting staff and students from Kandy schools and they are requested to use it whenever they travel to Colombo to represent their schools, which will help immensely to make the hostel a self-sustaining facility. For reservations please contact the lady Warden (011 2735570, 071 4599589). KSPPA was founded in 2007 to unite the past pupils of 12 leading schools in Kandy residing in Colombo through an annual get-together, the Kandy Bash.
