Kelani Saviya program given 5-year extension

Kelani Saviya is a unique CSR project which was initiated by UoP Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Dept. Prof. Janaka Ekanayake and Kelani Cables Plc then Asst. Manager Marketing Jayantha Wijesinghe to promote school leavers and self employed electricians as skilled technicians in the field of domestic and industrial wiring. The historic MoU was signed by UoP then Dean Faculty of Engineering Prof. S.B.S. Abeykoon and Kelani Cables Plc then MD Hemantha Perera on 19 January 2007 at the Faculty of Engineering.

In 2012 Kelani Saviya program was extended for another five years by Kelani Cables Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala and UoP then Vice Chancellor Prof. S.B.S. Abeykoon. Due to heavy demand the authorities of the Kelani Cables and the University of Peradeniya have decided to give another extension of five years with effect from 21 April 2017.

Accordingly the fresh MoU was signed by University of Peradeniya Vice Chancellor Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake and Kelani Cables PLc Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala on Friday, 21 April at 10:30 a.m.

The Kelani Saviya Electrical Wiring Course was designed by Prof. Janaka Ekanayake and conducted by the senior lecturers of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering. The applications will be called shortly for the enrolment of the ninth batch of Kelani Saviya for 2017/2018 period. The total cost of the program will be borne by Kelani Cables and those who qualify to follow the course will be provided free of charge.
