Lankaputhra Development Bank (LDB) continued its 10th anniversary celebrations by carrying out a host of social service programs recently.

In the Deniyaya region of Matara, the bank presented school supplies as well as a scholarship worth Rs. 10,000 to 100 children who had successfully passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam. In addition to this, the bank opened ‘Lakmuthu’ Children’s Savings Accounts for 100 schoolchildren from low-income families in the region. The children were selected based on the direction of the principals of the schools while the event took place at the Morawak Korale Tea Producers Cooperative Society Hall in Kotapola.

The scholarships were handed out by the Chief Guest at the event, Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake while LDB Chairman Deshabandu Lasantha Goonewardena, General Manager/CEO Lasantha Amarasekara and numerous other senior management officials of LDB also took part.

Expressing his views at the event, Minister Sagala Ratnayake stated, “I am very thankful to the Lankaputhra Development Bank for choosing a remote part of the country such as Deniyaya for such a wonderful program.” He added that carrying out such social service programs is the responsibility of both state and private sector organisations and the LDB is clearly in the forefront of such efforts.

LDB provides attractive interest rates for savings and a high interest rate for senior citizens’ fixed deposits. In addition to this, the bank also offers microfinance loans, interest-free payments, pawning services, ‘Sandaliya’ savings account for women and ‘Shasthree’ higher educational loan scheme specially designed for the benefit of students interested in pursuing Graduate, Post Graduate, Academic and Professional studies in locally and internationally-recognised educational institutes. LDB operates successful branches in Colombo, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Kandy, Kegalle, Wennappuwa, Batticaloa and Trincomalee. The bank also operates Information Centres in Tambuttegama and Akuressa.
