Leo Burnett Solutions Inc., the Sri Lankan office of the internationally-acclaimed advertising agency network Leo Burnett Worldwide, held an ‘apple dansala’ to commemorate Vesak.

Amidst a colourful display of stalls and vivid lanterns that decorated Bauddhaloka Mawatha, the Leo Burnett team handed out apples to the multitude of passersby who thronged to see the festive decorations in the true spirit of giving, which is synonymous with Vesak.

The colourful stand of 5,000 apples stood out amidst the bright street lights and Vesak displays, successfully attracting large crowds. Many Burnetters were seen controlling the crowds and ensuring that everyone who stopped at the dansala was handed an apple with a smile, keeping in line with the company’s global tradition of welcoming visitors with an apple, which has been practiced by every Leo Burnett office around the world for the last 76 years.

This act comes naturally to the Burnetters because at the agency’s reception, a bowl of apples welcomes all visitors. In extending this day-to-day practice, the Burnetters in Sri Lanka embraced the practice of ‘dhana’ to make all visitors to the dansala feel welcome and rewarded.

This ‘apple dansala’ was arranged by Leo Burnett for the third consecutive year. It was Leo Burnett’s firm belief that “the work of an advertising agency is warmly and immediately human, and deals with human needs, wants, dreams and hopes”. Since then, the apple has become a legendary icon used by Leo Burnett offices worldwide.

To this day, Leo Burnett agencies the world over offer apples as a token of welcome to all its visitors maintaining a tradition set by its founder 76 years ago.
