Nations Trust Bank has always been a firm believer in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The bank is of the firm stance that businesses are based on trust and foresight. Therefore, creating a synergy of ethics in a cohesive society, as well as contributing to physical infrastructure and social capital, is essential.

The bank started its association with the Cancer Hospital in 2006. Under this endeavor, Nations Trust Bank undertook the entire care and maintenance of Ward 19 in 2009.

The National Cancer Institute Maharagama, or the Cancer Hospital, as it is popularly known, is the premier tertiary referral hospital dedicated to the diagnosis and follow up treatment of cancer patients in Sri Lanka.

With many patients using its facilities, the Cancer Hospital is strengthened by the help and assistance received by donors, volunteers and caregivers.

Having undertaken the upkeep of Ward 19 in 2009, Nations Trust Bank has systematically refurbished the ward. In 2010/2011 refurbishment was undertaken with many infrastructure developments thereafter. In 2012 saw the colour washing of the building, a pathway being built for the patients’ ease of access and the replacement of ceiling fans.

The bank also annually contributes towards the maintenance of the ward by donating mattresses, bed-sheets, clothes, wheel chairs, refrigerators, ironing boards and cupboards, trolleys and various critical medicines for the patients.

“Maintaining and continuing the upliftment of Ward 19 is a pledge that we at Nations Trust Bank have undertaken and we are proud of how far we have come since the inception of the project in 2009. In our 5th year in helping the Cancer Hospital we hope to see an extension of our promise,” said Theja Silva, the Chairman of the CSR Committee of Nations Trust Bank.
