Nations Trust Bank upgrades computer lab at Amunutenna Dweethika Vidyalaya

Nations Trust Bank PLC has been focusing on Education as one of its key thrust areas in its sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility activities. The bank’s focus has been with a selected group of rural schools with the aim of uplifting the standard of infrastructure to a level conducive for learning which is a dire and basic need in terms of providing quality and decent education. Initiated in 2008, these initiatives have supported a number of rural schools in Sri Lanka, with the most recent beneficiary being the Amunutenna Dweethika Kanishta Vidyalaya, in the Ratnapura District.
Under the first phase of Nations Trust Bank’s assistance program to the school, an English reading unit together with a well-stocked library was set up. Sports equipment was also donated to supplement the play areas constructed by the bank at the school. General work in the school compound required to improve sanitation standards were also funded by the bank. In 2013 the bank funded the refurbishment and renovation of the students’ assembly hall and constructed a new fully equipped library. In addition, the bank also donated five computers, enabling the school to establish its own computer lab and also donated school bags, shoes, books and stationery to all students of the school at the commencement of the 2014 school year. A simple ceremony on 16 January 2014 marked the opening of the new computer lab and the giveaway of the gift packs to the school children for the new school year.
