Chief Minister of the North Western Province Athula Wijesinghe and Managing Director for Nestlé Lanka PLC Alois Holfbauer inaugurated the company’s 11th drinking water fountain at Kuliyapitiya Central College recently.

Nestlé Lanka places a strong focus on water, nutrition, and rural development in line with the company’s ethos of ‘Creating Shared Value’ as the company believes that is in these areas that it can that it can simultaneously create value for both shareholders and the society.

Water conservation, management and education initiatives are a high priority for Nestlé Lanka. Currently, Sri Lanka is working towards meeting its Millennium Development Goals on water and sanitation.

The company is contributing to achieving this goal by constructing several hygienic facilities of the highest quality to supply clean drinking water. These facilities are built in schools, hospitals and places of worship across the island, benefiting thousands of people.

In parallel, the company conducts water education programmes in rural schools to promote water conservation.

The recent unit constructed at Kuliyapitiya Central College provides a convenient source of drinking water for more than 2500 students. To create awareness on the importance of water and its conservation, water education programmes and an art competition were also carried out at the school by Nestlé staff, with the Chief Minister giving away the prizes to the winners of the art competition.

The drinking water fountain at the school will bring the total number of children and adults benefited by Nestlé drinking water fountains across the Island to over 14,000.
