Nine health camps in nine provinces by ITN

    As part of the latest CSR initiative of Independent Television Network Ltd (ITN), nine health camps have been arranged in the nine provinces of Sri Lanka and expected to treat over 50,000 people with the general and specialised medical consultations in all aspects of health care as well as to provide required medical aids such as reading glasses and medicine. Last weekend a health camp for the Central Province was held at the Kolongoda Vidyalaya in Minipe, Hasalaka in the Kandy district with the participation of Minister of Mass Media and Information Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella and Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayaka. The first set of reading glasses were given to the mother of Gamini Kularatna – the national hero from Hasalaka who sacrificed his life during the war protecting large number of Army personnel and the first recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya, the highest award for gallantry awarded by the Sri Lanka Army. Over 3,000 reading glasses and many more medical aids and medicine were given with an attendance of close to 10,000 people. Health camps for the Western Province, Sabaragamuwa Province and North Western Province were already conducted with the participation of its respective chief ministers, and in coming weeks it is planned to have health camps for the North Central Province, Northern Province, Eastern Province, Uva Province and Southern Province. Independent Television Network Ltd is a state governed television and radio broadcaster which broadcasts content to a wide demographic within Sri Lanka in three languages covering 99% of the island as well as the expatriate community. Apart from the flagship television channel ITN, it further operates Vasantham TV channel as well as Lakhanda and Vasantham FM radio stations. It has commenced operations on 13 April 1979 with the introduction of the ITN television channel as the first television broadcasting service of Sri Lanka and South Asia.
