NTB donates classrooms to Nithalawa Kansihta Vidyalaya, Kurunegala

Nations Trust Bank PLC has initiated a number of programs as a part of their CSR strategy to improve education resources among schools in remote corners of the country which cater to children from challenged, low income communities. The bank recently donated classrooms that were constructed at the premises of Nithalawa Kanishta Vidyalaya, Kurunegala. Nithalawa Kanishta Vidyalaya which is a school in the Wayamba Province, Kurunegala District has a total of approximately 246 students and 14 teachers and is a school that follows the standard curriculum that comes under the Ministry Of Education. The bank’s focus has had associations with a selected group of rural schools with the aim of uplifting the standard of infrastructure to a level conducive for learning which is a dire and basic need in terms of providing quality and decent education. Since 2008 a number of rural schools have been supported around Sri Lanka under this project.As a first step Nations Trust Bank’s assistance facilitated Nithalawa Kanishta Vidyalaya Kurunegala to lay its foundation stone for the building and thereafter in a short span of a month the premise was constructed and ready for occupation. A simple ceremony to mark the handover of  these classrooms were held recently amongst the banks officials, the education ministry officials in the district and the school principal, staff and students. Commenting at the occasion Company Sec/Deputy General Manager – Legal & Compliance Theja Silva stated, “It is  a great privilege for a bank like ours to be a part of uplifting the infrastructure to support the education for a school such as Nithalawa  Kanishta Vidyalaya, where students  have  shown tremendous results in terms of achievement. It is encouraging to note that approximately 80% of the students have successfully completed the GCE Ordinary level examination with flying colours.
