People’s Bank and PLC join hands to renovate Buttala Hospital

In view of its 50th anniversary, People’s Bank together with People’s Leasing Company Limited renovated the Buttala Hospital, and it was declared open to the public by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on route to the Dayata Kirula National Development Exhibition which opened on 4 February, 2011.

The project, which was undertaken with a view to provide much needed support to the national policy of making a healthier society, was completed at a cost of Rs 22 million - jointly borne by People’s Bank and People’s Leasing Company Limited.

 

People’s Bank, which was established on 1 July, 1961 has planned a series of social service projects to celebrate their Golden Jubilee, and the renovation of the Buttala Hospital is the 1st project to be completed in this series of events.

The Buttala Hospital is the main source of healthcare for more than 25,000 families in the area, with more than 500 patients seeking treatment at the OPD unit daily.

Many renovations were done to the hospital including modernising the wards, tiling the floor and repairing the roof, along with landscaping and renovating of infrastructure through this project.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Minister Jagath Pushpakumara, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Geethanjana Gunawardana, Chief Minister of the Uva Province Shashindra Rajapaksa along with the Chairman of People’s Bank and People’s Leasing Company Limited W. Karunajeewa, the CEO/ General Manager of Peoples Leasing D. P. Kumarage as well the management and the staff of People’s Bank and People’s Leasing Limited and the staff of Buttala  Hospital.
