People’s Bank gifts new born infants during independence week

Commemorating the 64th anniversary of independence in Sri Lanka, a large number of ceremonies were organised over the past week at both the Head Office of People’s Bank and all other branches located islandwide.

The ceremony at theHead Office of People’s Bank was held under the patronage of CEO/GM of People’s Bank, Mr. N. Vasantha Kumar, where the hoisting of the national flag and singing of the national anthem was carried out. All members of the armed forces and national heroes were also remembered.

The programme “Birth of Freedom” initiated every year in celebrating the day of independence was held this year as well, and at this ceremony, People’s Bank presented every baby born between the 1st of February and 7th of February 2012 with an “Isuru Udana Gift Certificate” worth Rs. 500/- together with a valuable  gift pack.

People’s Bank initiated this programme 6 years ago with an objective of enabling parents to envision their children’s goals while making them proud citizens who respect their country. With the Isuru Udana Gift Certificate, parents can now open an Isuru Udana Savings account for their child and maintain it with continuous cash deposits. A special feature of this programme is that the staff of People’s Bank themselves presented these gifts to the new borns at the hospital premises.

In this regard, a special ceremony was held on independence day (February 4th) morning at the Castle Street Maternity Hospital in Colombo, under the patronage of CEO/GM of People’s Bank, Mr. N. Vasantha Kumar, where Isuru Udana Gift Certificates and gift packs were handed to the parents of the new born babies. The Director of the hospital,Dr. W.K. Wickramasinghe, hospital staff, the Corporate and Executive Management of People’s Bank and other members of the bank were present at this ceremony.

Similarly steps were also taken for staff members of other People’s Bank branches to visit hospitals in their respective areas and present new born babies with these Isuru Udana Gift Certificates and gift packs.
