People’s Leasing donates van to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital cancer unit

People’s Leasing & Finance PLC, the industry giant nurtures a sustainable progress hand-in-hand with CSR activities. People’s Leasing enjoys the position of the foremost finance company and the market-leader in the non-bank financial sector in Sri Lanka. PLC recently donated a much needed van to the cancer unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital (Home-Based Palliative Care Unit). The People’s Leasing Head Office IT division and the PLC Galle branch jointly engaged in this worthy cause. The Rs. 3.5 million van was donated to further strengthen the home based palliative care services carried out by the hospital for the betterment of cancer patients in acute conditions who were treated and sent back to their homes. Speaking on this generous and timely donation Chief Cancer Specialist Dr. Upul Ekanayake said, “The cancer patients who are beyond cure need special assistance. These patients need our assistance to keep up their high moral and nursing care. We have a dedicated task-force comprising doctors, nurses and assistants for this purpose. They pay home visits to check the health of these patients and provide them with whatever such patients need and this donation will surely add muscle and value to the process.” The President of the Cancer Care Association Karapitiya Branch Anil Ranjith said: “The vehicle donated filled a great void prevailed in the unit and many sentiments are associated with this donation.” He paid gratitude to the entire staff of the People’s Leasing Company and emphasised that the Home Based Palliative Unit could handle only one patient under medication within a month and now these visits can be increased to ten by deploying the van donated by PLC. The occasion also paved way for People’s Leasing Company to donate branded mugs and food packets to around 225 resident-patients and branded umbrellas to over 140 officials, doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit. The occasion was graced by the People leasing and Finance PLC CEO/General Manager D.P. Kumarage, Asst General Managers Rohan Tennakoon and Prabath Gunesena, Senior Managers Andy Ratnayake and Hasantha de Silva, People’s Leasing Head Office staff and Galle branch staff, Specialist Dr. Upul Ekanayake, Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital cancer section’s ‘Palliative Care Unit’ President Anil Ranjith and a large gathering.
