In keeping with the ethos of giving back to society, Sampath Bank took on a series of strategic activities in partnership with the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) under the ‘Hope for a Life’ project – an initiative designed to improve the health infrastructure facilities of the nation. 

Bringing premium convenience to patients where it is most needed, Sampath Bank opened an ATM at the entrance to the Emergency Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The installation of the ATM now gives hospital staff, patients, their family members and visitors the convenience of cash withdrawals, fund transfers, cardless cash facility, mobile cash facility and so on at the hospital itself, with the added benefit of being less of one worry as they deal with the stressful situations at the hospital. 

Commenting on the installation of the ATM, Deputy General Manager, Marketing and Business Development Tharaka Ranwala said, “We at Sampath Bank focus much of our business operations around identifying essential needs of the society. As such, with the identification of the stress patients and family members go through at the hospital during emergency situations where they require cash and having to travel far to reach a bank/ATM we installed the ATM machine to provide them with much needed access to their money.  

“We are humbled once again to extend our services in our on-going partnership with the National Hospital of Colombo to further enhance and improve various aspects of the Hospital such as providing convenience to patients and their family, uplifting psychological wellbeing and enhancing medical treatment through technological innovation.”

Earlier this year, Sampath Bank took on a landscaping project with the National Hospital in commemoration of the hospital’s 150th Anniversary. With the aim of boosting the mental wellbeing of the patients at the hospital, Sampath Bank revamped the landscape of the National Hospital by planting trees and exquisite flora over an acre of land in Sections A and K of the hospital, as well as the entrance. Revamping and beautifying the landscape of the hospital was executed with the aim of minimising carbon dioxide emissions and provide patients with a sense of calmness and revitalisation in their stressful times. 

In addition to the landscaping project, Sampath Bank took medical diagnosis and treatment at the hospital to newer heights with the endowment of a fully-fledged Neuro Navigation System to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in 2014. The Neuro Navigation System worth Rs. 49 million was the first of the series of strategic activities carried out with the partnership with the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. This system was also the first of its kind to be gifted to a government hospital by a private commercial bank in Sri Lanka which assists neurosurgeons to view the interior of the brain accurately and identify the precise locations where nerve related injuries should be performed. 

Sampath Bank has continued to remain a pioneer in aligning the needs and interests of Sri Lanka with the many CSR initiatives carried out over the years. As a responsible corporate citizen, Sampath Bank has etched CSR as one of the top priorities amongst the various business activities it engages in. The commitment to uplift the wellbeing of citizens of the nation with initiatives as such is a strong depiction of Sampath Bank’s pledge to factor social responsibility and sustainability into their business. 

Furthermore, it is a reiteration of the bank’s spirit to effectively tackle issues that compromise lifestyles of communities across the island and engage in activities to uplift the standards of living in the Sri Lankan community.
