Sampath Bank launches Year 5 scholarship seminar series islandwide

Sampath Bank, as a value addition to its gamut of benefits that are on offer for its minor savings account holders, is organising a series of seminars and workshops islandwide to improve academic skills of students preparing for the Year 5 scholarship exam this year.

The bank has been continuously holding Year 5 scholarship seminars since 2010, and this year’s event will be the fourth such event.

‘Sampath Pubudu’ and ‘Sampath Sapiri’ children’s savings account holders as well non-account holders can participate at this event.

This year arrangements are being made to hold 10 Year 5 scholarship seminars islandwide, covering all nine provinces. The inaugural workshop was held at the Dikwella Vijitha Central College on 18 May with the participation of over 850 students while the second workshop was held on 1 June at Horana Sreepali Vidyalaya.



In organising the workshops, Sampath Bank management has selected areas such as Padaviya, Embilipitiya, Chilaw, Bandarawela, Higurakkgoda, Trincomalee and Vavuniya paying more attention to students with economic hardships and fewer resources. The Trincomalee and Vavuniya workshops will be conducted in the Tamil medium.

The training workshop/seminar series organised jointly with ‘Neth FM radio’ will be held till 10 August. Furthermore, Sampath Bank intends presenting cash rewards and scholarships to those students who display the highest skills both at national and district level under Year 2013 scholarship training program.



The seminars and workshops will be conducted by Year 5 exam paper marking teachers, experienced government school teachers and some popular intellectuals in the country.  The seminars will discuss model papers and also focus on time management, and ways to answer difficult questions.    

On the sidelines of the workshops which are aimed at encouraging students to successfully pass the exam, this year, the bank has also organised a special seminar to educate parents on financial management and the banking industry.
