Seylan Bank holds Health Camp at Devamulla Pilot Village in Horana

Seylan Bank PLC’s sustainability initiatives reached a remarkable milestone recently as the ‘Bank with a Heart’ recently reached out to the impoverished villagers in Devamulla in Horana and conducted a Health Camp at the Devamulla Primary School.

Present on the occasion was a large and distinguished gathering. Among them were Seylan Bank Chairman Eastman Narangoda and General Manager Kapila Ariyaratna as well as members of the Seylan Bank Sustainability Committee headed by Assistant General Manager Finance Champika Dodanwela and members of the senior management, managers and staff.

Also present were the Pasyodunrata Chief Sanganayaka Ven. Nawadagala Chandrasiri Thera, Ven. Sirimagama Piyananda Thera, Principal and Staff of Devamulla Primary School and the Principals of Ratiyagala and Kirimetiwalakada Primary Schools. Nearly 450 villagers, both adults and children, from Devamulla and adjoining areas visited this Health Camp, which was conducted entirely free of charge. They took part in interactive educational lecture sessions which covered vital concerns related to general health and safety.

This was followed by an eye clinic where spectacles were gifted after careful diagnosis by three optometrists. A dental care unit was also held to detect early warning signals of cancer, other gum diseases, tooth decay and related issues. Together with this an osteoporosis check was also carried out at the location.

The people of the area expressed their deep appreciation of the services provided and thanked the management and staff of Seylan Bank for their efforts towards the bettering of their lives.

With the completion of this Pilot Project, Seylan Bank will next venture into micro-finance avenues in the Devamulla Pilot Village with a view to elevating the socioeconomic conditions of the poor villagers. Among the initiatives planned are the creation of employment opportunities among the villagers and thereby encouraging investment and savings as a means to greater sustainability.
