SRI LANKA Foreign Employment Agency which is responsible for recruitment and training of Sri Lankan human resources for foreign employment launched ‘e–School’ programme in collaboration with Tharunyata Hetak (future for youth) to move Sri Lanka towards a knowledge based economy to provide skilled and professionals to reliable overseas markets and to move away from supply unskilled domestic maids to unsecured markets.

Sierra Global Network Private Limited, one of the leading telecommunication infrastructure development and managed services firm in the country is sponsoring the program. As part of the program, internet facilty has been provided to 3 schools in Tangalle recently, Sinimodera Primary School, Gatamanna Swarnapala Primary School and Tangall Muslim School.

Chairman of the ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ movement, Namal Rajapaksa MP said “Through the e-School initiative we will provide an opportunity for all the students in the rural areas to explore the world through distance learning. I thank Sierra Global for sponsoring the program and working closely with ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ movement in fulfilling this social need”. Chairman of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency, Asanga Abeyagoonasekera said “Our studies in the international job market and experience in the industry reveal two major hindrances to capture foreign employment at skilled and higher grades for Sri Lankan youth who have sufficient vocational training and experience in the trade. One is lack of computer knowledge and the other is inadequacies in foreign language skills. In order to build up these skills apart from providing other educational benefits to rural children with a long term vision, we have launched ‘e-School’ Program to provide internet facilities to rural schools”.

Director / CEO of Sierra Global, Dr. Arosha Fernando, said “We are happy to have been afforded the opprotunity to support e-School initiative which is a national programme to support less privileged rural children. I personally believe this is a timely need for our country and future of our nation. This is very well linked with our company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program as our vision is to provide the required infrastructure for communication, and e-School initiative will provide the communication platform for less privileged students across the country who may be the leaders of our nation time to come”.
