Signal official global partner for World Oral Health Day

Plans Guinness World Record on highest no. of dental screenings Signal, leading the oral health care fight against cavities both locally and globally, is partnering FDI, The World Dental Federation in celebrating the World Oral Health Day which falls on 20 March. In Sri Lanka, Signal is closely associated with the Dental Unit of the Ministry of Health, The Sri Lanka Dental Association (SLDA) and the World Dental Federation in its drive towards ensuring sound oral health care for all Sri Lankans. Research shows that regular brushing of teeth can contribute tremendously towards dental health. With its inspiring theme, ‘Towards A Cavity Free Sri Lanka’ in mind, Signal has launched a tooth brushing campaign that encourages and empowers communities to achieve good dental health practices among families. Brushing day and night is recommended by dentists all over the world to ensure sound oral health care and is considered a good practice that must be passed on to future generations. “With a theme of ‘Smile for Life’ globally, Signal is committed to helping drive good Oral Health Care globally and with special emphasis on children,” says Unilever Sri Lanka Country Marketing Director Siddharth Banerjee. “Instead of only desiring children to get used to the concept of brushing their teeth twice a day, Signal is involving the participation of the children throughout the world, enabling them to encourage everyone in the family, including their parents, to practice sound oral care habits.” Signal believes that the concept of sound oral health care is vital for families and growing children whose voices must be heard on World Oral Health Day. With this in mind, Signal in Sri Lanka will attempt to set a Guinness World Record of the highest number of dental screenings to be staged at one location within one day. The Guinness World Record initiative will be held with the active participation of schoolchildren in Kandy and will involve several institutions such as the Dental Faculty of the University of Peradeniya and the SLDA. “Signal has consistently driven the message of brushing twice a day daily. Through the development of good oral health habits, Signal believes that ‘Towards a Cavity Free Sri Lanka’ becomes a promise of the future with tremendous potential for all Sri Lankans,” adds Siddharth. Commenting on the close association Unilever Sri Lanka Ltd has nurtured with the SLDA, Dr. Dileepde Silva President SLDA says, “The SLDA is pleased to be associated with initiatives and efforts that encourage children and communities to develop habits of good oral health.” The SLDA has consistently been associated with many community based dental programs conducted by Unilever Sri Lanka the manufacturer of Signal, at a rural level, giving those without regular access to proper dental facilities, the opportunity to be screened. “The prime role of the Oral Health Division of the Ministry of Health is to ensure the oral health promotion of the entire Sri Lankan population and provision of effective oral health care and treatment to those who need,” says Ministry of Health Deputy Director General (Dental Services) Dr. J.M.W. Jayasundara Bandara. Further he emphasised the importance of inspiring the next generation towards sustaining good oral health habits, especially since eating habits have changed considerably today.
