Demonstrating its continuing commitment to the Sri Lankan healthcare sector, Singer recently commenced maintenance work on the Lunawa Hospital’s Male Ward. The current work is part of the company’s ongoing support of the hospital, which began with a thorough renovation of the ward, three years ago and also included an employee-led clean-up initiative that has helped transform the hospital. Today, patients at the busy hospital receive a new and improved level of healthcare, thanks to the efforts of Singer Sri Lanka.

The present maintenance work at the hospital’s male ward includes a complete overhaul of its ceilings and roof, in order to improve the building’s structural integrity and safety, as well as a renovation of its bathrooms and doors. The company also tiled and painted the entire male ward and installed new ceiling fans and light fixtures.

Singer’s decision to support the Lunawa Hospital was taken after an analysis of the conditions there and an assessment of how the company could most effectively leverage its resources to maximise its beneficial impact on the region’s healthcare needs. Applauding Singer’s work at the Lunawa Hospital, Dr. W.K. Chandrapala, Doctor-in-Charge of the Male Ward, thanked the company, noting that the hospital was now able to deliver higher quality services, which means happier patients.

Motivated by a recognition of the difficulties faced by the Sri Lankan healthcare sector, the partnership between Singer and the Lunawa Hospital is just one amongst many. Indeed, the company has also committed significant resources towards the upgrading and maintenance of a number of other Sri Lankan hospitals, including the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital, Kopay Hospital in Jaffna, the Divisional Hospital in Padukka, Colombo South Hospital, and Ketumathi Hospital.

For example, in addition to refurbishing the new maternity ward of the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital, Singer also donated valuable and much-needed healthcare equipment such as delivery beds, trolleys, a state-of-the-art Pulse-Oximeter, and other technical facilities. Today, over 500 healthy babies a month are delivered at the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital, an encouraging indication of the country’s progress towards the UN Millennium Development Goals’ maternal health target.

Singer’s philanthropic efforts aren’t limited to the Sri Lankan healthcare sector. Indeed, the company is heavily involved in a number of critical areas, including education and the development of youth activities. Throughout all of the company’s various community-building initiatives, one factor remains constant: Singer is dedicated to doing all it can to help Sri Lankans reach their fullest potential.
