Singer Sri Lanka gifted two, much needed dialysis machines for kidney patients, to the Polonnaruwa General hospital on recently, under the distinguished patronage of Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena.

The doctors, nurses and staff of the Polonnaruwa Hospital and directors and the management of Singer Sri Lanka, were also present at this important occasion. “This kind gesture to provide dialysis machines to hospitals is greatly appreciated by the public,” the minister said.

Recent news reports have highlighted that the number of patients suffering from kidney ailments are on the rise in Sri Lanka. Diabetes, high blood pressure and environmental factors all contribute to the increased incidence of kidney diseases, with around 700 new patients being reported annually and about 1,000 patients in need of advanced treatment such as dialysis and kidney transplants.

Singer Sri Lanka Marketing Director Nasser Majeed stated that even though the ‘Thirst for Life fund’ is set up now to collect funds from the sale of Singer Water Filters and Purifiers which would contribute towards the purchase of these dialysis machines, the company has advanced the money necessary, considering the urgency of the problems faced by the people.

He went on to point out that every time someone buys a Singer Water Filter or Purifier from any Singer or Sisil showrooms or authorised dealers, they are contributing towards the purchase of these urgently needed dialysis machines for kidney patients. “Hence, whilst helping others, you will also have the benefit of drinking pure, clean water,” he stated

“Singer Sri Lanka, as a good corporate citizen, recognised the need for private sector participation to help alleviate the suffering of the people, who are dependent on the Government hospitals for their dialysis treatment. Singer Sri Lanka was recognised as one of the top corporate citizens by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in the year 2012 and continues to fund projects in health, education, sports and community service.

This 162 year old company is recognised as Sri Lanka’s largest consumer durable retailer and continues to be Sri Lanka’s No. 1 brand.
