Stressing the importance of setting and achieving goals, Singer’s continuous support of the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital is focused on enabling the country to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals’ maternal health target.

Before Singer got involved, the Hospital did not have the facilities and equipment needed to adequately meet the maternity needs of the Nuwara Eliya region, spurring the company to take immediate corrective measures.

As one of the busiest hospitals in the Central Province, the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital has welcomed Singer’s support with open arms, building a partnership that will benefit infants and mothers.

Singer (Sri Lanka) has invested significant financial and human resources over the past year in completing the second phase of its CSR partnership with the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital’s New Maternity Ward. The second phase, which includes the construction of 12 cupboards for nursing mothers, the installation of partitions for added privacy, and the donation of two water geysers, two emergency lights, two wheelchairs, three medical trolleys, a sink, and other miscellaneous items required for the maintenance of the ward to ISO standards is a reflection of the company’s desire to uplift health standards in Sri Lanka.

After assessing the hospital’s requirements, Singer agreed to donate healthcare equipment to its New Maternity Ward. The first phase of the project, which involved the donation of 12 delivery beds, four trolleys, one Pulse-Oximeter and other technical facilities, was carried out in 2009.

Today, Singer assists in the births of over 500 healthy babies a month and performs regular maintenance on the ward’s facilities. As the hospital’s partner, the company is continually evaluating the effectiveness of its support and undertaking new initiatives when necessary.

Dr. K.L.S. Rajapaksa, who heads the New Maternity Ward, lauded Singer, noting that the Company gives them the facilities he and his team need to effectively perform their duties. Indeed, Singer is duly renowned for investing in healthcare infrastructure throughout Sri Lanka.

Using its wide reach to make a beneficial impact wherever possible, the company has invested in a number of healthcare projects, including the renovation of the Kopay Hospital in Jaffna and the Divisional Hospital in Padukka, as well as the continuous maintenance of wards at Colombo South Hospital, Lunawa Hospital, and Ketumathi Hospital.

Given its tireless efforts to uplift the community, it’s no surprise that Singer has been recognised by the Nielsen Company as one of the Most Respected Entities in Sri Lanka.  The healthcare sector is only one of the many areas that the company has turned its benevolent energies to. From the education sector to the development of youth activities, Singer is committed to bringing out the best in Sri Lankans by giving them the tools and support they need to succeed in life.
