Sinhaputhra Finance, for the sixth consecutive year, organised a blood donation campaign to mark their anniversary, at their head office in Kandy.

On 15 January, the company in consort with the Sri Lanka Navy commemorated its 34th anniversary with a campaign that collected 103 pints of blood for the Blood Bank at the General Hospital (Teaching) Kandy.

The customary rituals were conducted at the outset with the board of directors and management of the company receiving Captain Anura Dhanapala, Commanding Officer, Navy Camp, Thalathuoya, followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp.

In his address, Captain Dhanapala said that the donation of blood, either to save another’s life or to restore another to good health, is no doubt a meritorious act.

He also mentioned that many other firms in Kandy must take the initiative and carry out blood donation campaigns as there is a dearth of blood not only in Kandy but at blood banks throughout the island.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Ravana Wijeyeratne, the Managing Director of Sinhaputhra Finance, who expressed his appreciation to the staff of the Navy and the General Hospital (Teaching) Kandy, for making the time to be with them at the occasion.

He also thanked the members of the staff who strived to make this campaign meaningful. Rukmal Wijesinghe and Lahiru Amarasuriya who also spoke, stressed on the importance of the exercise.

Several members of the staff, customers and well-wishes donated blood between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the campaign was a resounding success.
